Chart polski is such a kind of dogs which has strong predator and hunter features. Instinct, very often, gets the upper hand over learnt behaviour. Therefore, it is very important to socialize this kind of dogs as soon as possible, to let them from the small puppy of this breed become a dog which is able to live with people and other dogs, not the aggressor making a lot of problems for its owner.

Chart polski should not be kept in pens (not because of the weather, like rain or cold – that is not the problem), but this kind of dogs kept in isolation usually makes a lot of problems. Even 2 hectares of the area will not create any appropriate condition if the owner has sporadic contact with the dog, or the dog will not meet other dogs, or find in the situations in which it will have to take a position on something.

Work with those dogs is really pleasant, especially when the owner will get to know his greyhound very well, then they will learn fast and readily.

And sometimes chart polski by observing other dogs duplicates their behaviour, what is surprising. But it is very important not to show in any way we are weaker than our chart polski, it can end with the chance to get dominated by dogs, and chart polski will try to subordinate us and the whole surroundings.

Those dogs can be kept with other kinds of dogs, but generally dogs with submissive character are advised. It is because of the fact that the other solution can end with fighting and unnecessary stress for us and our dogs. Males are usually more dominating than females, but it happens that in the herd a female is more important than a male.

There is a general rule according to other animals, for example cats, “ …you should touch what is ours, but what is not you can….”. Generally keeping other dogs with chart polski is possible, but only under the observation and control of the owner.

We should also remember that those dogs have a well developed territorial instinct, what makes them excellent caretakers, and this causes that they are not eager to escape.

Chart polski is also an excellent family companion, really connected to its owner. It has features of a defensive as well as company dog. But it is not a dog for everyone. If you want to understand this dog it is not enough just to read a couple of books about dogs’ training, you need to have some practical experience with this special kind of dogs.

It is not a dog for the beginners. It requires an experienced and determined guard otherwise it can become an aggressive and dangerous animal which will terrorize the surroundings.
